‘Kupala Night’

ULYANA SEERGENKO, SPRING/SUMMER 2015

Fourth semester trend application project, done in connection with my AP degree at VIA Design in the beginning of 2014, where the goal is to document one’s ability to understand and adhere to the design DNA of known designers and brands.

Being an admirer of Ulyana Sergeenko’s hyper-feminine couture designs, with her intricate hand-crafted details, I chose her as one of two brands to apply the floral trends of summer 2015 to (with the other brand being ‘Creatures of Comfort’).

For Ulyana Sergeenko’s version of the floral trend, I took inspiration from the Slavic way of celebrating midsummer night, or ‘Kupala Night’ as it is called locally, and coupled it with the opulent aesthetics of old Russian royalty.
